Grupo Modelo Opens First Charging Station for Heavy Vehicles in Mexico City

With the participation of key players for sustainable mobility and an investment of 7.2 million pesos, Grupo Modelo, with the participation of Megaflux Fleet, inaugurated the first charging station for heavy vehicles in Mexico City.

The center will allow the brewery’s fleet of trucks, which currently has 132 units for its operations, to be loaded in two hours. At the time of opening, it has three supply points, but expects to reach eight soon.

The initial capacity will be for 16 delivery trucks, although it has the capacity to receive 32 21-ton trucks. It should be noted that the vehicles have a range of 160 kilometers.

Grupo Modelo expects to expand the stations to the state of Monterrey, while by the end of 2023 it plans to have 200 electric units.

Goals

The inauguration of the charging station is part of Grupo Modelo’s roadmap in which it seeks to incorporate 500 electric vehicles by 2025 and zero emissions by 2040.

The total number of kilometers traveled by the company with electric vehicles in 2022, translated into CO2 savings, represents about 132 tons, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the Chapultepec Forest in a period of 5 months.

Cassiano de Stefano, President of Grupo Modelo, recalls that a year ago the first fleet of heavy electric trucks for delivery was presented, in conjunction with the Government of Mexico City. “Since then, we have been committed to continue investing in green logistics, to continue betting on electromobility.”

The goal for 2040 is to reach zero CO2 emissions and to have 400 electric vehicles. By 2025, the goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 25% throughout the brewery’s value chain.
