MachuPicchu: A Tourist Heritage that Joins Electromobility

MachuPicchu, a tourist heritage of Peru and humanity, announced the incorporation of high-tech electric buses, with the aim of promoting sustainable mobility.

The units will operate the route from the district of Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu Pueblo) and the Inca City of Machupicchu, transporting tourists and locals to the wonder of the world.

Each bus is equipped with a 250kWh battery that allows an autonomy of up to 250 kilometers per charge, enough to make up to 10 daily trips, transporting more than 300 tourists.

Pollution Reduction

“With these eBuses, we will avoid the emission of approximately 40 tons of CO2 each year, contributing directly to the preservation of the ecosystem surrounding Machupicchu.

This is an initiative that reflects our commitment to Peru’s energy transition, contributing to one of the most important sectors for the country, such as tourism,” said Walter Sciutto, General Manager of Pluz Energía, the company leading the initiative.

The implementation of these electric vehicles will reduce the environmental impact of tourism in one of the main wonders of the world.

In this regard, Pluz Energía signed an agreement with Consettur, operator of tourist transportation in Machupicchu, for the leasing of the units, in addition to the installation of two electric chargers to ensure the efficient operation of the transportation. The vehicles are expected to start operating this December.
