The state of Coahuila, Mexico, is the leading manufacturer of electric vehicles in the country. According to a publication by “Player of life”, out of every 10 electric vehicles produced in the country, 7 come from the northern region, equivalent to 46,166 units out of a total of 65,045 produced nationwide.
This impressive growth is the result of a transformation in the local automotive industry.
In 2023, Coahuila generated just 11% of Mexico’s electric vehicles, but between January 2023 and May 2024, production in the state increased 3.8 times, reflecting the effort of industrial players in the region to adapt and lead in this sustainable mobility sector.

Fertile Territory
Coahuila not only stands out for its production, but also for its crucial role in the supply of raw materials for the manufacture of electric vehicles, ranking third in this area, behind only Guanajuato and Nuevo León.
Currently, the main electric vehicle factories in Coahuila include the General Motors plant in Ramos Arizpe, where models such as the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV and Honda Prologue are produced.
It is expected that, by 2025, this plant will also begin manufacturing the Cadillac Optiq EV luxury SUV, which will further strengthen Coahuila’s presence in electromobility.
This positioning of Coahuila not only strengthens the state’s economy, but also positions it as a benchmark in the global automotive market, by contributing significantly to driving the transition to cleaner and more sustainable mobility in Mexico.
