Mexico City has been internationally recognized for its advances in sustainable mobility on January 7, 2025.
There, the Mexican capital received an honorable mention from the Sustainable Transport Award (STA), highlighting the initiatives implemented during the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as Head of Government.
Among the projects that contributed to this recognition are the implementation of Cablebús, the expansion of Metrobús, and the promotion of the ECOBICI public bicycle system.
As a result, these initiatives have significantly improved mobility in the city, offering efficient and eco-friendly transportation alternatives for its residents.
Sustainable Transport Award (STA) in Detail
The Sustainable Transport Award is a prestigious international recognition granted annually by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP).
It acknowledges cities that implement sustainable transportation policies, reducing environmental impact and improving the quality of life for their citizens. Thus, Mexico City joins other metropolises that have been recognized for their efforts in promoting more sustainable urban mobility.
The current Head of Government, Clara Brugada Molina, expressed her satisfaction with this achievement and reaffirmed her commitment to continuing the strengthening of sustainable mobility in the capital.
Finally, she announced plans to increase investment in the Metro, expand Metrobús lines, develop more Cablebús routes, and improve the infrastructure for bike lanes and ECOBICI.
