Mexico: Olinia Project Visits Puebla to Assess Possible Plant Installation

The leaders of the Olinia project, the Mexican electric car, visited Puebla to assess the region’s electromobility capabilities.

During the visit, they toured the automotive cluster and key facilities such as the Innovation and Industrial Design Center, the High-Level Human Resources Specialization Center (CERHAN) in San José Chiapa, and the facilities of the company Zacua.

The governor of the region, Alejandro Armenta Mier, highlighted that Puebla has advanced infrastructure and skilled labor for this project, previously announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

According to the governor, the manufacturing of Olinia will boost innovation, the use of clean energy, and the transition to electromobility, also transforming the educational and labor landscape.

The participation of institutions such as the Instituto Tecnológico de Puebla, the Universidad Politécnica, and the Universidad Tecnológica de Puebla was emphasized.

Additionally, the compliance with automotive industry safety regulations will ensure a strong alliance between the sector and universities, aimed at the plant’s installation.

The Project

President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, introduced the Olinia project, the first Mexican manufacturer of electric mini-vehicles, which by the end of the administration, in 2030, aims to produce three models priced between $4,500 and $7,500.

The assembly plant, which will combine public and private capital, will develop a personal mobility mini-vehicle, another for “neighborhood mobility”, designed for short distances, and a third for last-mile deliveries, explained Roberto Capuano, head of the project.

In statements reported by the EFE news agency, he stated that “**our goal is to launch the three models with a company that has both public and private investment, ensuring economic viability and long-term prospects. For our first model, the goal is to reach the opening match of the 2026 World Cup at the Estadio Azteca in an Olinia.”
