Mexico: Puebla Plans Major Advances in Electromobility with Foreign Investment

Puebla is making significant progress in attracting investments in automotive electromobility, in view of the commitments of Volkswagen (VW) and Audi to establish this type of projects in the state. This was stated by Governor-elect Alejandro Armenta Mier.

According to the local media Milenio, the future Governor was visiting Casa Aguayo to present, together with the constitutional Governor, Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, the results of the commercial tour they had in Germany and Spain at the beginning of September.

In this regard, both profiles affirmed that the permanence of VW and Audi in Puebla is not only guaranteed, but with serious intentions of growth for the production of electric vehicles.

Projected Growth

Céspedes emphasized that having given certainty to the two companies with the largest investment in Puebla, such as Volkswagen and Audi, is a sign of success.

He anticipated that in Armenta’s six-year term there will be multiple foreign investments given the success story of the automakers, although he preferred to reserve more details due to confidentiality principles.

“It is a message that consolidates that the production of the electric car in Puebla is a reality,” added Armenta after recognizing Céspedes for agreeing with VW and Audi investments for 2.1 billion euros during his two years in office.

According to the head of the state Ministry of Economy (SE), Ermilo Barrera Novelo, 43% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state depends on the automotive industry; however, Audi and VW alone generate 24% of that figure.

The official joined Céspedes and Armenta in celebrating that the automotive industry in Puebla is guaranteed for the next generations due to its evolution towards electromobility.
