Mexico Received More Than 5 Billion Dollars in Investments in Electromobility

Mexico’s National Auto Parts Industry reported that between January and September 2023, the automotive sector invested more than US$5 billion in electromobility.

This figure represents approximately 32% of the total investments of the entire sector, which amounted to 15.722 billion dollars in the same period.

Nuevo León was the state that received the most projects in this area, with a total of 20 of the 83 that were installed in different parts of the country, followed by Coahuila with 18 and Guanajuato with 10.

The Industry detailed that of the total number of auto parts projects registered in the January-September period (142), 83 were found to be directly related to electromobility platforms. That is, 58.4% of the total, which demonstrates the strong trend towards electrification in the Mexican automotive industry.

In the third quarter of the year alone, the industry earmarked US$1,000,000 for electromobility projects. This amount represented 31 % of a total investment of 3,422,000 registered in the same period.

Significant Increase

According to the Auto Parts Industry, between July and September 2023, a total of 66 investments in all segments came to Mexico from 15 countries, which was 57.1% more than in the same period of the previous year.

Of this total, 44 corresponded to new investments, 19 were for expansions and 2 for retooling, while one was mixed, i.e., new and expansion.

By category, the majority, 38 of them, were related to the auto parts segment and 8 were for industrial parks. Two were related to Engineering and Development.

In this same period, 15,000 new jobs were generated, almost 70% more than in the third quarter of 2022.
