Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), reported that a total of 82,611 hybrid and electric vehicles were sold in the January – September period of the year; that is, 77% more than in the same period of 2023, equivalent to 7.7% of the total number of light vehicles sold in the country, according to INEGI data.
“Electromobility is growing in the country, helping logistics companies to make deliveries with zero emissions,” commented Fedora Cabal Wallis, Commercial Leader of Tranciti Mexico in statements reviewed by Mexico’s “La Prensa”.
However, she pointed out that there are also challenges, such as charging infrastructure and the initial cost of these vehicles, which represent significant barriers for small and medium-sized companies.

Hybrids and Charging Stations on the Rise
The logistics industry is currently seeing an increase in electric and hybrid vehicles for freight transportation. Increasingly, companies are considering these electric options to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their costs.
In 2021, fuels used in transportation activities accounted for 32% of carbon dioxide emissions.
With respect to charging infrastructure, states such as Puebla recorded a 47.6% increase in the network of chargers for electric vehicles, which, to date, has more than 40 charging points distributed in different parts of the state.
In the framework of the installation of five new chargers in the Parque del Arte, the Head of the Energy Agency of the State of Puebla (AEEP), Gabriela Carvajal Rubilar, highlighted in a publication of the local media Milenio, that this infrastructure represents the consolidation of policies in terms of sustainable mobility.
As part of the infrastructure plan for electric vehicles, the official explained that 21 chargers were installed in different parts of the state, in addition to the 20 that were part of the first phase of the project.
