The Mobility in Harmony (MIH) consortium, created in 2020 by electronics giant Foxconn for the development of an open electric vehicle platform, will use Canadian BlackBerry‘s software for the automobile operating system.
BlackBerry recently announced that Foxconn, the world’s largest manufacturer of Apple’s iPhone, will use its QNX operating system, its IVY automotive artificial intelligence platform and other services.
As reported by the EFE news agency, one of the electric vehicle prototypes of MIH (a consortium comprising hundreds of companies, including Tata, Karma, Lordstown Motors and Microsoft) is Project X, a three-person car designed for the Asian market that will be presented in Japan at the end of 2023.
High-tech Range
Among the highly innovative new products presented a few weeks ago, MIH also announced the development of larger vehicle platforms with seating for six and nine people.
It is worth noting that BlackBerry QNX is used in more than 215 million vehicles worldwide, produced by manufacturers such as BMW, Ford, General Motors (GM), Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Volkswagen.

In that regard, MIH CEO Jack Cheng said in a statement that BlackBerry is the “perfect partner” for the Canadian company.
“We anticipate a deeper collaboration to realize our shared vision of revolutionizing the electric vehicle industry and are delighted with our partnership with BlackBerry,” he stressed.
Foxconn’s robust platform will be complemented by the solid-state batteries that the tech company itself is developing and claims to have ready by 2024, thus offering a complete product to potential customers who would only have to adapt their proposal to the MIH platform, as Foxconn could even manufacture its customers’ electric cars.
