The Dominican Republic has made significant progress in the adoption of electric vehicles. This is detailed in the recent report of the National Statistics Office (ONE).
The agency states that from 2020 to 2024, the number of this type of vehicles in the Dominican Republic has increased considerably.
In 2023 alone, the country registered a 60% increase in the number of electric vehicles that were already part of the vehicle fleet (858), compared to the volume in 2020 (342).
According to ONE, the factor contributes to environmental health and the reduction of atmospheric emissions, such as carbon dioxide.

In almost four years, at least 3,043 electric vehicles have entered national territory, according to figures from the Directorate General of Customs (DGA).
Up to July of this year, the country has allowed the entry of 421 battery-powered cars. In 2021, 679 entered, and in 2022 another 743 units.
The data are contained in a new ONE report on human settlements in sustainable mobility, published on its website.
Within the automotive market, there are new and renowned brands that have dedicated themselves to the manufacture of these vehicles.
The biggest impact was the arrival of Tesla’s electric truck model, the Cybertruck.
According to local newspaper Listin, as of September 2024, the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) registered at least five Cybertrucks in the country.
The registration of the first plate of one of these vehicles took place on June 6. Subsequently, another one was documented on July 11, followed by another one on August 1, August 2, and finally the last one on August 5 of this year 2024.
