New Mexico City Mayor to Establish a Mobility Master Plan

Clara Brugada, the new Mayor of Mexico City (CDMX), made a series of commitments to the people of Mexico City on issues such as water supply, electromobility, and citizen security during her inauguration.

She assured that her actions will be directed towards “a city with a future and long-term policies to address the great challenges of the metropolis”, outlining the priorities for her administration such as lack of water, insecurity, poverty, environment, mobility and gender equality.

She announced that she will implement a master plan for mobility, in which electromobility in public transportation will be expanded, five Cablebus lines will be built, and the renovation of the Metro will continue.

Scope

The new Cablebus lines will be installed in the municipalities of Tlalpan, Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, and Milpa Alta-Xochimilco, while the renovation of the Metro will have a “deep intervention in facilities, systems, and trains of Line 3 and 4”, along with an extension of Line 12 to Observatorio.

She will also aim for a “network of traffic lights with technology and artificial intelligence to speed up vehicle flow”, reduce air pollution, and save time for citizens. She also promised to build two new Metrobus lines, improve fast lanes of Circuito Interior and Periferico, and expand the bicycle lane network by 300 additional kilometers.

Brugada also announced the construction of a second-floor pedestrian walkway with free use of bicycles and green areas, connecting Taxqueña to the Historic Center.

Regarding water, the new mayor emphasized that “solutions will be sought to guarantee the human right to water, and we will change the water management model to achieve water sustainability”.
