Part of the Spanish Automotive Industry Welcomes Appointment of New Minister of Sustainable Transport

The Spanish National Association of Coach Transport Entrepreneurs (ANETRA) expressed its willingness to work with Oscar Puente, the new Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

The objective is to generate the conditions that will allow operators in the sector to improve the efficiency of passenger transport by updating the concession system.

One of the objectives is to encourage competition from SMEs, facilitate the energy transition of vehicle fleets, adapt the Low Emission Zones to the reality of the services provided by discretionary services and promote the attraction and retention of young talent.

Endorsement of the Designation

ANETRA expresses its satisfaction for the fact that the new minister has proven experience in sustainable mobility, which was demonstrated during his time as Mayor of Valladolid.

According to the report of Diario Transporte de España, the Association trusts that the figure of Puente will be key to resolve the deadlock in the bus sector, which, according to the definition of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility itself, has an obsolete design and is threatened by a great legal instability with more than half of the concessions expired or annulled.

The business organization welcomes the fact that the Ministry, in its new name, introduces the term “sustainable” in the name, and recalls that the bus is one of the most sustainable modes of transport.

ANETRA also considers it essential that the draft sustainable mobility law underway introduces mechanisms to improve competition by transforming the current system to make it more efficient.

Another focus is to allow the 2,800 small companies that provide services in our country to compete under better conditions, which should be one of the priorities of the Executive.
