Peru Increases Electric Vehicle Sales by 45%

The Peruvian Automotive Association (AAP) reported that 622 electrified vehicles were sold in September this year, representing an increase of 45.3% compared to the same month of 2023.

According to an Infobae publication, the guild highlighted that between January and September 2024, 5,010 hybrid and electric vehicles were marketed, 56% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The sales volume achieved so far has already exceeded the total number of vehicles sold during the whole of 2023, according to the AAP.

Alberto Morisaki, Manager of Economic Studies and Statistics of the Peruvian Automotive Association, highlighted that the sale of electrified vehicles, both hybrid and electric, continued its upward trend in the first nine months of 2024, achieving a new historical record since records have been kept.

Infobae details that the most sold vehicles during the period analyzed were light hybrids or MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle), with 2,420 units, representing an increase of 31.2%.

In second place are the conventional hybrids or HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), with 2,093 units, representing a growth of 114.7%.

They are followed by pure electric vehicles or BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicle), with 305 units, an increase of 57.2%, while plug-in hybrids or PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) registered 192 units, a decrease of 3%.

“When presenting the percentage share by technology class, the leadership of light hybrids stands out, which have a higher preference among consumers, with a 48 % share within sales in the first nine months of 2024.

Meanwhile, the share of conventional hybrids stood at 42%, while pure electric vehicles stood at 6% and plug-in hybrids reached 4%,” said Morisaki of the AAP.
