Siemens was selected to reduce emissions and energy consumption of Heineken brewery plants in the world, including its operations in Mexico.
In a statement, the German company said that this is due to a long-term decarbonization program in which Siemens will implement solutions and services from its portfolio to reduce energy consumption in more than 15 plants in Asia-Pacific, America and Europe.
In a review by the Mexican media Milenio, Siemens’ operations simulation system, part of Industry 5.0, showed that approximately 70% of energy consumption was related to generating the heating and cooling required for the brewing process.

By optimizing and monitoring the systems through a comprehensive program, Siemens estimates energy savings at each site of 15% to 20%, in addition to a CO2 reduction of 50 %.
“Heineken and Siemens are collaborating on an initial consulting, auditing and advisory services project, using a digital energy twin to simulate and analyze a Heineken brewery in the virtual world, identifying where significant energy savings could be achieved,” the release said.
The brewer’s CEO and Chairman of the Board, Dolf van den Brink, believes that taking on these challenges with partners like the German company allows it to bring technical expertise and industry knowledge to innovate quickly and at scale.
“We are excited to continue on this journey with partners who are committed to pioneering and localizing next-generation solutions, to help us reach our net zero emissions targets,” he stressed.
The company said that to achieve the targeted reductions in energy and CO2 use, Siemens will use a comprehensive program of solutions and services that are scalable and replicable across Heineken‘s global production sites.
