The national director of Energy of Uruguay, Christian Nieves Lauz, assured that the country is making significant progress in its second energy transition, consolidating sustainable mobility and energy efficiency as fundamental pillars.
In an interview published by Energy Estratégica, as part of the Future Energy Summit Southern Cone, the official noted that they have focused their recent efforts on changing the energy culture and implementing concrete measures such as labeling for products, buildings, and combustion vehicles, with the latter being the most recently added.
This effort is accompanied by the development of specific policies, such as the recent approval of the sustainable mobility policy, which represents a key regulatory framework for the sector’s future.

Mobility plans
One of the mobility advances highlighted by the national director of Energy in Uruguay was the consolidation of the electric charging infrastructure network across the country, guaranteeing chargers installed every 50 km.
According to Nieves Lauz, the new goal would be to end this government term with a fast charger every 100 kilometers. In this context, collaboration between the public and private sectors has been crucial.
“A very important deployment of chargers has been made, and now we are focusing on the fast ones, in addition to allowing private sector entry into the market to compete and provide services,” says the national director of Energy.
On the private sector side, significant contributions have also been made. Nieves Lauz highlights the recent inauguration of the first electric charging station in the country, driven by Huawei’s donation of the first ultra-fast charger.
