Spain: Ambitious Mobility Plan Unveiled for Portugalete Municipality

The City Council of Portugalete, a Spanish municipality in the province of Vizcaya, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, has just begun the process of creating what will be its new Sustainable Mobility Plan.

The plan seeks to adapt its day-to-day life to the needs of cities to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly. It is expected that, if the estimated deadlines are met, this plan will be ready and approved within nine months.

According to Jon Pesquera, Councilman of Works and Maintenance of Urban Spaces of the Consistory Jarrillero, described the project as “exciting in which we will have the participation of citizens. Working on sustainability is not only a challenge, but also an obligation”.

Plan Milestones

The new Sustainable Mobility Plan will be divided into five phases. The first of these will be to conduct an analysis and diagnosis of the current situation of the noble villa portugaluja in terms of sustainable mobility.

The second stage will involve the creation of a strategic framework that will define the future of the new document. Once this strategic framework has been defined, the next step will be to establish an action plan and then draw the relevant conclusions and, based on all of them, refine the text to be submitted to the municipal plenary for approval.

Finally, the fifth phase of this process will be the realization of a follow-up plan for all those objectives and tasks that are set in the new Sustainable Mobility Plan portugalujo.

Also, soon will open a space in which the residents of Portugalete may submit their proposals to be included in the creation of this document for which the City of Portugalete has invested around 36,000 euros.
