Students from the Mechatronics Engineering program at the Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Jocotitlán, in the north of the State of Mexico, have built two vehicles that run on electricity.
According to the Mexican media Milenio, one of these models will compete nationally in a university electromobility contest, while the other will be marketed by a private company.
The students built a simple car that will compete with other university units from all over the country. “The theme is electromobility, vehicles that operate with the use of electricity,” said Elvis Coutiño Moreno, Head of Electromechanical Engineering Division.
“This topic is important because we are looking for electromobility to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and reduce pollution,” he explained.

Coutiño explained that this is a federal government plan to introduce the development of electric automobiles, which is why the Jocotitlán Higher Education Technological School is joining this project.
Local Production
The vehicles were designed in the northern area of the State of Mexico, which has the particularity of being agricultural, however, they bet to believe in this model of electromobility.
“Despite the fact that the Technological of Higher Studies of Jocotitlán is located in a rural area, with pride, we have a demand from a large part of the northern part of the State of Mexico, in fact, we have students coming from Toluca and we have students coming from Atlacomulco, Ixtlahuaca and all the municipalities that are in the area,” said Coutiño.
The students of this technological center designed a couple of units. One of them is a small car with a tubular structure with bicycle tires, a chair, a motor and bicycle handlebars, which serves to accelerate and brake.
