A recent study published in Nature Energy has revealed that electric cars have a lifespan comparable to that of internal combustion vehicles.
The research, led by an international team in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, analyzed data from 300 million vehicle inspections conducted in the United Kingdom between 2005 and 2022.
The results indicate that an electric car has an estimated lifespan of 18.4 years, compared to 18.7 years for gasoline vehicles and 16.8 years for diesel vehicles.
Study Details
It was observed that electric cars can travel up to 200,000 kilometers over their lifetime, matching the performance of combustion vehicles.
The study also highlights that the reliability of electric cars has significantly improved in recent years, with a 12% annual reduction in failure rates since 2005. Among the brands analyzed, Tesla stands out for the longevity of its electric vehicles.
These findings suggest that concerns about battery durability and the lifespan of electric cars are largely unfounded.
Finally, with a prolonged lifespan and mileage comparable to combustion vehicles, electric cars emerge as a viable and sustainable option for the future of transportation.
