Sustainable mobility in Chile has a strategic plan for its development

The National Strategy for Sustainable Mobility (ENMS) of Chile is an initiative born to transform the country’s transportation system into one that is more efficient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly.

This plan, presented in 2020, aims to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation and promote clean mobility, improving people’s quality of life and aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Its main purpose is to reduce pollutant emissions from transportation. To achieve this, the government focuses on encouraging the use of renewable energy and electric vehicles, supporting the necessary infrastructure alongside the adoption of cleaner technologies.

The strategy also places a special emphasis on urban mobility. The goal is to transform cities by promoting the use of public transportation and cycling, with a network of bike lanes to facilitate cycling commutes.

Other actions of the ENMS

The ENMS promotes carpooling and shared transportation to reduce congestion and improve resource use efficiency.

In terms of infrastructure, the electrification of public transport is one of the most ambitious projects, with the goal of having 1000 electric buses operating in Santiago by 2035.

In this way, the National Strategy for Sustainable Mobility of Chile represents a paradigm shift toward greener, more accessible, and efficient transportation that aims to improve urban quality of life and care for the planet.
