With the aim of promoting sustainable mobility in the country, Ecuador has developed its National Policy on Sustainable Urban Mobility (PNMU), a plan designed to enhance environmental sustainability in the urban mobility sector.
This plan was initiated in 2019 thanks to a €500,000 contribution from the European Union’s Euroclima+ Program, an initiative aimed at supporting the country in achieving its 2030 Agenda and focused on establishing a cooperative pathway to improve urban mobility infrastructure through specific projects.
In this way, the Policy brings together the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, the French Development Agency, and the Spanish-Ecuadorian association TRN Taryet and A&V Consultores Cía. Ltda., all aligned towards creating a positive impact on the sector from various perspectives.

Sustainable Mobility in Ecuador
The PNMU proposes several solutions to boost sustainable mobility in Ecuador’s major cities, as well as across the rest of the country.
In particular, the Policy suggests advancements in technologies for passenger, cargo, and private vehicle transportation. Additionally, it focuses on developing plans to improve the efficiency and functioning of the public transportation system, while also promoting the use of non-motorized means of transportation in public spaces.
Finally, it proposes plans for land use and urban mobility planning, along with the formulation of new public policies that address mobility needs in the present and near future.
