Toyota Presents Technological Diversification Strategy at Latam Mobility Colombia 2026: ‘A Path for Every Destination’

Latam Mobility Colombia 2026

Within the framework of “Latam Mobility Colombia 2026,” held at the emblematic Orquideorama of the Medellín Botanical Garden, Automotores Toyota Colombia presented its strategic approach to sustainable mobility under the concept “A Path for Every Destination.”

The keynote was delivered by Camilo Gutiérrez Vásquez, Homologation Analyst at Toyota, who detailed how the company is building a clear and realistic roadmap for the energy transition in the country.

Gutiérrez Vásquez began his speech by stating that in a country as diverse as Colombia, there is no single destination – there are different needs, different realities, and different customers. Therefore, sustainable mobility goes beyond the fundamental goal of reducing emissions to zero.

It is not just about vehicles. It is also about how to achieve a better quality of life for customers, provide them with safety, and generate meaningful driving experiences.

Technology Diversification as a Core Pillar

In this context, Gutiérrez Vásquez presented the technology diversification strategy implemented by Toyota, which argues that there is no single solution for sustainable mobility.

On the contrary, we must work with different technological alternatives: hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrids, internal combustion vehicles running on carbon-neutral fuels, fully electric vehicles, and also hydrogen-powered ones.

The fundamental objective is to make the energy transition realistic, practical, and affordable for all Colombians, addressing their different geographic, economic, and usage realities.

Within the framework of this strategy, he recalled the 1:6:90 rule proposed by Gil PrattToyota’s Chief Scientist, according to which the materials needed to manufacture batteries for electrified vehicles are scarce.

From there, Pratt demonstrated that with the same materials used to manufacture a single pure electric vehicle, you can manufacture up to six plug-in hybrid vehicles or up to ninety full hybrid vehicles.

The analyst explained that if you take a fleet of 100 combustion vehicles and transform ninety of them into full hybrids, you reduce CO₂ emissions thirty-five times more than if you took a single combustion vehicle and converted it into an electric one.

The conclusion is clear: what matters is not the technology itself, but how materials are used efficiently to achieve the greatest positive environmental impact.

Three Vehicles That Demonstrate the Commitment to Diversification

As a concrete example of this philosophy, Toyota presented three vehicles that reflect its commitment to diversification: two hybrids and one electric.

The first is the Toyota bZ4X, the brand’s first 100% electric vehicle in Colombia. Designed and manufactured in Japan with all of Toyota’s DNA, this model takes the brand’s off‑road experience and applies it to electric terrain.

Equipped with the X‑Mode system, it allows driving on any surface and topography in the country; it has 338 horsepower and a range of up to 480 kilometers. The Toyota bZ4X was conceived as a bridge between customers and their lifestyle – designed for activities, families, and recreation – offering peace of mind, comfort, and stability on any surface.

The second vehicle presented was the fourth‑generation full hybrid Yaris, a model that brings electrification closer to customers and democratizes it. It is the only hybrid hatchback in its segment with a 1.5‑liter hybrid engine producing 116 horsepower.

Its concept is “Ready to Go” : a vehicle for any time and any situation, focused on those who want to get started with electrification within the city. It offers a spacious, high‑quality, safe, compact cabin and cutting‑edge technological equipment.

Finally, Toyota celebrated the return of an iconic vehicle: the hybrid RAV4. Historically the best‑selling SUV in the world, this new generation evolves to become the next step toward electrification for customers. It features a 2.5‑liter hybrid engine generating 239 horsepower with four‑wheel drive on all wheels.

It is also the first vehicle in Colombia with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, the brand’s new generation of advanced safety systems. Its concept is “Life Is an Adventure” : a vehicle for any terrain and any situation, ideal for both short and long trips. It incorporates space for everything and everyone, control, ease of handling, and is ready for enjoyment.

The Right Vehicle for the Right Customer

Camilo Gutiérrez Vásquez closed his speech by reiterating that Toyota’s proposed solution is not a single vehicle, but the right vehicle for the right customer.

It is not only about electric vehicles, but also about hybrids that act as a bridge between combustion and electricity, as well as increasingly efficient combustion vehicles.

“Today we showed you three great Toyota successes – three vehicles that are different solutions for our customers – but above all, we showed you a path for every destination,” the executive concluded.

With this presentation at Latam Mobility Colombia 2026Toyota reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, realistic sustainable mobility adapted to the country’s diversity, demonstrating that the future of automotive is not singular, but multiple and diversified.

A Year 2026 of Consolidation for Mobility

The Latam Mobility 2026 Tour will continue in Santiago, Chile on August 25, bringing together experts and strategic players to further strengthen the sustainable mobility ecosystem in the region.

The tour will conclude in Mexico City on October 12–13, alongside the Climate Economy Forum, in an event that will bring together leading figures from the sector to continue driving the transition toward more efficient, sustainable, and low‑emission transportation systems in Latin America.

The transition is already underway. The Latam Mobility 2026 Tour will be the meeting point to accelerate decisions, connect key players, and collaboratively build sustainable mobility for Latin America.
