Uber Green Now Available in Costa Rica

Uber announced the availability of Uber Green in Costa Rica, a new option that allows users to request rides in 100% electric vehicles.

Uber Green is already available in specific areas of the capital, such as Santa Ana, Escazú, Sabana and will expand to more areas of the GAM as more collaborating partners with electric vehicles join.

Globally, Uber Green is operational in 100 cities and 13 countries.

Zero Emissions Strategy

This new option is part of Uber’s global commitment to sustainability, which aims to be the cleanest mobility platform on the planet.

By 2040, they expect that every trip made through the app will be 100% emission-free.

Laura Santillán, General Manager of Uber in Costa Rica, highlighted that the country has been key in the path towards a more sustainable future in the region. “With the launch of Uber Green, the country is once again leading the way by being the first in the region and the second in Latin America to have this product,” she said in statements reported by the portal La República.

With the launch of Uber Green, the platform joins the efforts made by Costa Rica to achieve the goals set out in the decarbonization plan that seeks to make the country carbon neutral by 2050, directly impacting the reduction of the carbon footprint in mobility.

Uber Green is the result of the efforts of the Electric Mobility Fund of Costa Rica (FME), driven by Uber and the first of its kind in Latin America, which seeks to promote electromobility through projects and partnerships.

The first goal, which was announced last June, was to end 2023 with 100 electric vehicles in the Uber app. With the launch of Uber Green, the app surpassed the goal, closing the year with more than 300 active electric cars in the app.
