The high levels of pollution and overpopulation in Mexico City represent great challenges and opportunities for the public and private sectors to implement important solutions in the field of mobility.
In this sense, the Mexican mobility company VEMO, which designs and implements customized innovations that cover the entire ecosystem of clean mobility – charging infrastructure, vehicles and technology, signed an important partnership with the Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD.
Through this strategic alliance, VEMO plans to add 1,000 electric cars to its fleet in the Mexican capital. Currently there are already 200 units circulating in Mexico City, which operate exclusively through Uber and have VEMO’s proprietary integral technology ZEE (Zero Emission Ecosystem).
This solution allows for optimized monitoring and management of the vehicles, dedicated charging infrastructure hubs installed at strategic points and double shift systems, to provide service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Details of the Vehicles
The cars to be incorporated will be of the D1 model, developed by BYD for high utilization in mobility platforms and around the needs of users and a 137 hp electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that offers a range of more than 400 kilometers and a consumption of 12.8 kWh/100 km.
Among its main features are: Ergonomic seats, sliding rear door for easy access, 135 Hp electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and a range of more than 400 kilometers.
“Having BYD’s D1 models as part of VEMO’s electric fleet will allow us to increase our operational capabilities with mobility platforms and the availability of our charging infrastructure, while creating more than 3000 formal jobs by reducing on average 20000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to planting 1 million trees,” stated VEMO’s Co-Director of Mobility Platforms, Alejandro Rosette.
For his part, BYD Mexico’s Marketing Director, Rodrigo Montero highlighted that one of the Chinese company’s most ambitious goals is to contribute to reducing global temperatures by 1ºC in the coming years, which is why they are excited to collaborate with VEMO in order to accelerate the transition to clean mobility in Mexico.
“We are confident that the experience on board our D1 model will exceed the expectations of users and drivers, which is confirmed by the more than 100,000 cars currently circulating in the city of Shenzhen, China, equivalent to 100% of the cab fleet in this city,” he said.
