Volkswagen to Invest 1 Billion Dollars in Puebla for Electromobility

Volkswagen’s unit in Mexico will make a second round of investment in the state of Puebla close to 1 billion dollars, aimed at boosting its operations with electric vehicles, the entity said in a statement.

“The amount is in addition to the investment announced by the company in 2022 of 763.5 million dollars in a plant in the municipality of Cuautlancingo,” the press release, reviewed by Reuters, said.

The company details that its strategy in North America will allow the German firm’s subsidiaries in the United States, Canada and Mexico to strengthen synergies.

In October 2022, the German vehicle manufacturer stated that between that year and 2025, Volkswagen de México would modernize its vehicle plant in Puebla. The plan included the construction of a new paint shop.

The investment “represents a great opportunity for Volkswagen de México to consolidate its position as a strategic production center in this region of the continent, where one of the world’s main vehicle markets is located,” the text detailed.
