{"id":19470,"date":"2023-06-02T05:05:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T10:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/?p=19470"},"modified":"2023-06-01T20:24:47","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T01:24:47","slug":"introducing-natural-gas-vehicles-project-for-public-transportation-in-panama-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/introducing-natural-gas-vehicles-project-for-public-transportation-in-panama-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Natural Gas Vehicles Project for Public Transportation in Panama City"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An urban center of great magnitude, but with some planning problems, make that inhabitants of <strong>Panama City <\/strong>face any number of difficulties in road traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To solve these obstacles, specific projects have been developed in recent years, in which the <strong>MetroBus <\/strong>system and the first <strong>Metro <\/strong>line have been implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, through financing from the <strong>Inter-American Development Bank<\/strong>, a study was contracted for the preparation of the &#8220;<strong>Integral Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility for the Metropolitan Area of Panama<\/strong>&#8221; (PIMUS), whose main objective is to propose a transportation and urban mobility policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this occasion, &#8220;<strong>MI Bus<\/strong>&#8220;, Panama&#8217;s mass transportation company, initiated a pilot public transportation plan in which two new buses of the fleet will use natural gas as fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This pilot project is an alliance between <strong>Hyundai<\/strong>, which will supply the units that will use this clean fuel, <strong>MI Bus<\/strong>, which will manage the routes, and <strong>AES Panama<\/strong>, which will supply the gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read also:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/paraguay-unveils-electric-mobility-master-plan\/\"><strong>Paraguay Unveils Electric Mobility Master Plan<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-focus\"><strong>Focus<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objective of the plan is to analyze for 6 months, the performance of these two buses that will run on the 15 routes of Metro Bus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the period, the <strong>Technological University of Panama<\/strong> will analyze the results, which will be evaluated by senior officials of <strong>MI Bus<\/strong> and if feasible, the fleet will be switched to gas fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Natural gas vehicles could be an interesting alternative for Panamanian public transportation in view of the high costs of polluting fossil fuels and the high pollution it produces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from the <strong>Panama News Agency<\/strong>, <strong>the use of natural gas vehicles reduces CO2 by 25%, reduces polluting particles by 66% and causes savings of 49% compared to fossil fuels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Official figures indicate that <strong>98% of public transportation in Panama uses fossil fuels<\/strong>, which pollute the city with both CO<sub>2<\/sub> and noise, with the intention of reducing these gases and protecting the health of Panamanians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An urban center of great magnitude, but with some planning problems, make that inhabitants of Panama City face any number of difficulties in road traffic.
