Day 2 of the Latam Mobility Summit Conosur in Chile gave continuity to the meeting that arrived in the country with the aim of exploring perspectives and strategies in the energy and mobility industry.

At this meeting, Álvaro Villasante, VP of Business Management & Innovation of Grupo Energía Bogotá, conducted a pleasant interview with Julio Friedmann, General Manager of ENAP (Empresa Nacional del Petróleo), who shared his vision and experiences in the transition to a more sustainable future in the field of energy and mobility in the country.

ENAP, with more than 70 years of history in the fuel industry, is in a crucial position to lead the energy transition in Chile.

“The company’s focus is on the migration to cleaner fuels, in particular green hydrogen,” says Friedmann.

ENAP’s Vision

ENAP’s vision focuses on sustainable mobility and the production of green hydrogen in Magallanes, a strategic region for logistics and energy production.

“ENAP has established agreements with private companies to develop projects that permit the export of renewable energy”, he continued.

Regarding the decarbonization of the Chilean economy, Friedmann stresses that investment in sustainable fuels is a priority, as these have a significantly greater impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to investment in reducing emissions in refineries.

The importance of sustainable mobility in the context of the energy transition is also highlighted.

In relation to the issue of infrastructure and logistics, it highlighted the importance of using existing infrastructure to accelerate the transition to clean energy and reduce the environmental impact.

The interview also concluded with a focus on ENAP’s adaptation and organizational transformation to meet the challenges of the energy transition.

“It is important to train professionals and the need to maintain a long-term focus on the transition to a more sustainable economy”, he said.

Friedmann thus explained the company’s role in the transition to cleaner energy in Chile, as well as its commitment to sustainable mobility and the production of green hydrogen.

Finally, he showed how ENAP is positioned as an important actor in the country’s energy transformation, taking advantage of its experience and resources to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and Chile’s sustainable development.
