The President of the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Commission of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, Edna Diaz, informed that they are working on an initiative that seeks to give greater impetus to the production and sale of electric cars in the country.

The official assured in a forum that one of the points that could be included in the document has to do with the exemption of some taxes for assemblers and for final consumers.

Likewise, Diaz pointed out that the support being defined will not imply an expense for the country.

“What is at stake is bigger than any public and political office, it is the future of a country that requires ambitious actions in the face of a phenomenon that has strongly impacted us and, in addition, we have seen the catastrophes of natural phenomena that are actually the product of the harmful human activity we have had with nature. We have to do something, time is running out and if we do not act now, it will be too late”, he warned.

José Zozaya, President of the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), warned that without adequate policies, the country’s electromobility goals will only be partially met, without reaching the level that is needed.

The document is expected to be approved on December 15 of this year, so that before the end of the current legislature it can be sent to the Senate for its approval.
