Over the next few months, FedEx Express<\/a>, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp<\/strong>, will integrate the first of 33 new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric vans into its ground operations in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FedEx Express stations in Madrid and Barcelona have been designated as destinations for the 3.5-ton all-electric vehicles. Currently, 16 of these vehicles are operating on package pickup and delivery routes in the centre<\/strong> of the country’s capital, while another 17 will soon be driving on the roads of Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At both locations, a total of 33 certified charging points<\/strong>, powered exclusively by renewable energy, combined with a dynamic energy management solution, will ensure that the entire fleet of electric vehicles<\/strong> can be optimally charged overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FedEx Transition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In March 2021, FedEx announced its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality <\/strong>across its operations globally by 2040, where the progressive electrification of its own package pickup and delivery fleet is important in the roadmap to sustainability.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Both our employees and customers are excited to see the first such vehicles in Madrid and Barcelona, making lower or zero-emission pickups and deliveries more common in Spain. These two locations are key in our network and these new vehicles help us move towards more sustainable operations in both cities,” said Ian Silverton<\/strong>, Managing Director of Ground Operations for FedEx Express<\/strong> in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, FedEx Express has expanded its fleet of electric vehicles<\/strong> similar to those in Madrid and Barcelona to other locations in Europe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
