BYD announced the construction of a large plant in Mexico that will generate around 10,000 jobs, putting it on par with some of the largest car factories in the country.

The brand is in final negotiations to define the location of the facility, and an official announcement is expected in the coming months, Jorge Vallejo, BYD’s General Manager in Mexico, said Tuesday in an interview.

A plant of that size would employ more people than other automakers’ facilities in the country, such as Audi.

Volkswagen’s plant in Puebla, Mexico’s largest, employs 6,100 assembly line workers and 5,000 supervisory employees, plus thousands of people in charge of parts assembly.
