{"id":35271,"date":"2024-07-01T05:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-01T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/?p=35271"},"modified":"2024-06-28T15:52:12","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T20:52:12","slug":"byd-to-build-plant-in-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/byd-to-build-plant-in-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"BYD to Build Plant in Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>BYD <\/strong>announced the construction of a large plant in <strong>Mexico<\/strong> that will generate around <strong>10,000 jobs<\/strong>, putting it on par with some of the largest car factories in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brand is in final negotiations to define the location of the facility, and an official announcement is expected in the coming months, Jorge Vallejo, <strong>BYD&#8217;s General Manager in Mexico<\/strong>, said Tuesday in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A plant of that size would employ more people than other automakers&#8217; facilities in the country, such as Audi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Volkswagen&#8217;s plant in Puebla, Mexico&#8217;s <\/strong>largest, employs 6,100 assembly line workers and 5,000 supervisory employees, plus thousands of people in charge of parts assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Also read:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/byd-and-catl-lead-battery-market\/\"><strong>BYD and CATL Lead Battery Market<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-progress-in-the-country\"><strong>Progress in the Country<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BYD had received proposals from some 23 Mexican<\/strong> states for its plant and has narrowed it down to three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The car brand is on track to sell <strong>50,000 units in the country this year.<\/strong> Last month, BYD launched its Shark hybrid pick-up, yet another sign of Mexico&#8217;s growing importance to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stella Li, the company&#8217;s Executive Vice President and CEO for the Americas region<\/strong>, has previously stated that the company plans to establish this factory near Mexico City, which is located in the south-central part of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Li said that BYD&#8217;s investment <\/strong>in Mexico is mainly focused on the local market. So while many U.S. brands manufacture cars in the north of the country for easy shipping back home, BYD is looking for a location that is within 200 km of Mexico City, Li added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/latam-green.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/LM-Mexico.jpg\" alt=\"Mexico\" class=\"wp-image-26421\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-latam-mobility-closes-tour-in-mexico-city\"><strong>Latam Mobility closes tour in Mexico City<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After a successful start to the year in <strong>Monterrey, Latam Mobility<\/strong>, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America, <strong>closes 2024 in Mexico City.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be two days, <strong>on October 15 and 16<\/strong>, where industry leaders and private sector representatives will provide perspectives on mobility, electromobility, sustainability, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting will be held at the <strong>World Trade Center in Mexico City<\/strong>.
