{"id":35400,"date":"2024-07-03T05:15:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T10:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/?p=35400"},"modified":"2024-07-02T17:51:06","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T22:51:06","slug":"automated-zero-emission-freight-carrier-spearheads-sustainable-project-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/automated-zero-emission-freight-carrier-spearheads-sustainable-project-in-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"Automated Zero Emission Freight Carrier Spearheads Sustainable Project in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Japan&#8217;s government<\/strong> is planning to connect major cities with <strong>automated zero-emission logistics links<\/strong> that can quietly and efficiently move millions of tons of cargo while taking tens of thousands of trucks off the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>According to The Japan News,<\/strong> the project has been under discussion since February by a panel of experts from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A draft of an interim report was released a few days ago revealing plans to complete an initial link between <strong>Tokyo and Osaka by 2034.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country expects that around <strong>30% of parcels<\/strong> will simply not get <strong>from point A to point B by 2030<\/strong>, because there will be no one to transport them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You may also read:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/enel-x-and-espacio-urbano-unveil-the-second-largest-charging-station-in-latin-america\/\"><strong>Enel X and Espacio Urbano Unveil the Second Largest Charging Station in Latin America<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence this logistics link that will allow as much small cargo to be moved between Tokyo and Osaka as <strong>25,000 trucks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carga-1-1024x572.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carga-1-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carga-1-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carga-1-768x429.jpg 768w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carga-1.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-operations\"><strong>Operations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the report, each pallet will be able to carry up to one ton of <strong>small cargo items and will move without human interference<\/strong> from one end to the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One possibility is to use giant conveyor <strong>belts to cover the 500-kilometer (310-mile)<\/strong> distance between the two cities, running along the highway or, potentially, through tunnels under the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, the infrastructure could simply provide flat lanes or tunnels, and pallets could be moved by automated electric carts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the points the report makes is that <strong>a 500-kilometer tunnel would be costly,<\/strong> <strong>at around $23 billion<\/strong> before factoring in conveyor belts or autonomous carts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The project start date is 2034<\/strong>, and given the current state of driverless technology, it certainly seems very plausible that we will have autonomous vehicles on the roads in large numbers by then.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japan&#8217;s government is planning to connect major cities with automated zero-emission logistics links that can quietly and efficiently move millions of tons of cargo while taking tens of thousands of trucks off the road.
