Since late last year, Chile has had the Sustainable Chilean Public Transport Strategy (CLETS) project, backed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented through CAF.

The project aims to promote the incorporation of electromobility in public transport and non-motorized modes (bicycles), through the implementation of four demonstrative actions in Antofagasta, Concepción, Lebu, and Valdivia.

Additionally, the project facilitates the development of regulations and plans aimed at mitigating climate change in the urban management of Chilean cities.

Related content: Chile: Puerto Varas modernizes its public transport with electric buses

This project has a $2.9 million donation from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), executed through a cooperation agreement signed between CAF, the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), and the Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AGCID).

Thus, Chile has taken on a series of international and national commitments related to climate change and sustainable development, including its Nationally Determined Contribution, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Climate Change Law.

Finally, greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) generated by transportation are particularly significant, representing 25% of the total national emissions, making it the second most important source, behind only the energy industry. Projects supported by CAF are crucial for the sector’s decarbonization.

The “Latam Mobility & Conosur 2024” in Santiago, Chile, will bring together major companies and leaders in energy, transportation, fuels, and mobility to showcase industry advancements and perspectives in the country and region.

The summit will feature a series of thematic panels and presentations that play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable mobility, decarbonization, circular economy, and renewable energies, along with prominent networking opportunities to form key alliances towards zero emissions.

The event will take place on August 27-28 at the InterContinental Hotel, Santiago.
