The “Latam Mobility: Brazil 2024<\/strong>” served as a platform for the presentation entitled “Brazil’s Role in the Development of Electromobility in Latin America<\/strong>“, given by the president of the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles<\/strong> (ABVE), Ricardo Bastos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The executive began his presentation by indicating that ABVE <\/strong>has the challenge of supporting the development of sustainable mobility in Brazil from all sectors and in a qualitative way. “We do not have only automobile or auto parts manufacturers, but also the entire chain that is involved<\/strong>, including companies that are using electrification in their business.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“ABVE <\/strong>is structured to interact with a universe of companies: large, medium, small, start-ups, multinationals, and national<\/strong>. We do this in working groups, which include everyone with an interest in each segment. In addition, we have 30 members on the board of directors who are responsible for coordinating these thematic groups, which today have 124 members participating”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABVE: Advances in Mobility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During his presentation, the organization’s executive indicated that there has been a significant increase in the sale of low-emission vehicles. “This year we expect to issue more than 150,000 registrations<\/strong>, compared to 93,000 last year, which is an exceptional growth of close to 60%. However, we must understand that the leap must be qualitative, with growth in infrastructure.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Perhaps today we have some figures that exceed 100% growth, but we know that it reflects a momentary situation: with the increase in taxes, there will be a balance in imports and, in the medium term, they will be replaced by domestic production, so there will be an interesting movement in terms of sales.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Bastos pointed out that last year sales of plug-in vehicles (plug-in hybrids and electric) have increased in Brazil. “Total sales in the country, according to Fenabrave <\/strong>data, are growing, so when our share goes up or remains stable, it means that we are also growing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ABVE <\/strong>representative considers that progress must be made on the regulatory issue. “There is a long way to go in terms of public policies, as well as having a National Electromobility Plan<\/strong>. Senator Rodrigo Cunha<\/strong> has been a leader of the electromobility group in the country, and is making great progress on these issues in Congress”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, the executive pointed out the importance of the approval of the “Mover<\/strong>” law, which will promote the decarbonization of the automotive sector, and which will promote a fundamental support to the country’s research and development technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Ricardo Bastos<\/strong> was emphatic in pointing out the multiple opportunities that Latin America has in the automotive sector. “We must have many companies dreaming together to lead the way, and make synergies grow between countries.
