The Chilean Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications<\/strong> received 86 proposals from 9 national and international companies interested in the 2023 Red Movilidad<\/strong> road concession tender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opening of the technical offers took place, where the process covers 30% of the bus services <\/strong>in the system and includes the operation of five service units with 121 routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, it involves the acquisition and financing of buses<\/strong>, which will remain as assets under the concession, along with charging infrastructure and terminal management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe number of offers received for this tender confirms that we have met one of our goals, which was to increase competitiveness in the system, always aiming for an improvement in service quality,\u201d said Juan Carlos Mu\u00f1oz, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis competition, combined with a business model that is particularly attractive to financiers and manufacturers, will generate savings of at least 15% for the system, equivalent to $40 billion per year,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chile Advances in Sustainable Mobility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The tender specifications require that all 1,200 new buses be electric, allowing for fleet renewal in more than twenty municipalities. Among these, thirteen stand out where more than 40% of the services are included in the tender.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, a progressive increase in the participation of female drivers is established, starting at 12% of the total and reaching 18% by the end of the eighth year of the concession<\/strong>. Incentives to reduce fare evasion are also being increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe tender includes a historic requirement regarding the percentage of female drivers, which must gradually reach 18% by the eighth year of the concession,\u201d said Paola Tapia, Director of Metropolitan Public Transport.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGender equity is explicitly mentioned for the first time in a tender process to highlight the importance of care-related trips, the diverse travel patterns, and to ensure the proper provision of services that reduce inequalities, delivering a quality, comfortable, and safe service from both a road and public safety perspective,\u201d she concluded.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latam Mobility, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America, will once again arrive in Santiago de Chile for its 2024 meeting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
