The President of the Mexican Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (AMIVE), Francisco Cabeza<\/strong>, said that Mexico has the potential to emerge as the leader in the regional shift towards electromobility, if the new government focuses on developing energy infrastructure to supply companies seeking to reduce their emissions by 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a note reviewed by Global Fleet, Cabeza believes that the country can support the strategies of OEMs that want to focus on electric mobility in the next six years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He specified that global companies should reduce their emissions by 2030 <\/strong>and carefully plan their efforts. In addition, recent U.S.<\/strong> policies that reduce incentives for the purchase of electric cars and impose tariffs on imports could deter automakers from setting up operations in Mexico, prompting them to seek new markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Country of Opportunities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For AMIVE’s President,<\/strong> \u201cit starts to make sense to look to Mexico not only to manufacture their cars but also to start putting their fleet within the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Mexican administration, led by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum<\/strong>, is expected to develop a favorable environment for electromobility during her six-year term (2024-2030).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheinbaum plans to support electric mass transit systems in Mexico’s major cities, and accelerate the transition to electromobility by updating vehicle environmental standards, and other related policies that are expected to benefit the fleet market, according to Sheinbaum’s government plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elected-elect could implement the nationwide the electromobility initiatives that she pushed as head of government in Mexico City,<\/strong> which promoted the development of electric vehicles for public and heavy-duty transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latam Mobility<\/strong>, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America, closes 2024 in Mexico City.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
