This week, the first \u201cMexico EV Day: Financing for Electric Mobility in Mexico\u201d<\/strong> was held as part of World Electric Vehicle Day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity, organized by the Mexican Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (AMIVE)<\/strong>, was attended by the President of the Association, Francisco Cabeza Santillana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cabeza<\/strong> pointed out that companies with commercial fleets<\/strong> represent little more than 20% of the vehiclefleet<\/strong>, but generate more than 40% of the emissions<\/strong> associated with transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, we can have more incentives<\/strong>, we can also build a better infrastructure<\/strong>, but these are all challenges in which we can continue to advance as long as we also advance in the electrification of our fleets<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Road Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The President of AMIVE<\/strong> highlighted the progress made. However, he pointed out that the climate crisis<\/strong> requires a redoubling of efforts. He pointed out that although the fleet of hybrid and electric vehicles<\/strong> has increased 26-fold<\/strong> in the last eight years<\/strong>, there is still a long way to go to accelerate electrification<\/strong>, especially in key sectors such as public transport<\/strong> and logistics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Cabeza<\/strong>, the increase in electric-only car registrations<\/strong> was remarkable last year, registering a year-on-year growth of 80%<\/strong>, reaching 15,000 units<\/strong>. However, this figure represents only 1% of the total automotive market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, the executive was optimistic about the integration of the Mexican market<\/strong> with its trading partners in North America<\/strong>, which offers significant potential to take advantage of subsidies from the Inflation Reduction Act in the United States<\/strong>, which will reduce harmful air pollution<\/strong>, promote environmental justice<\/strong>, and save families money on their energy bills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Francisco Cabeza<\/strong> highlighted the need to create financial mechanisms<\/strong> that allow companies<\/strong> and local governments<\/strong> to finance the transition to electric mobility<\/strong> at a lower capital cost<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latam Mobility in Mexico<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Latam Mobility<\/strong>, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America<\/strong>, will close 2024 in Mexico City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be two days, on October 15 and 16<\/strong>, where industry leaders<\/strong> and private sector representatives<\/strong> will provide perspectives on mobility, electromobility, sustainability<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
