They did so timidly with <strong>4.2%<\/strong> to <strong>300,000 units<\/strong>, thanks to a <strong>24% jump in the United Kingdom<\/strong> and gains in <strong>Italy, Germany, and Denmark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, <strong>11.5 million PHEVs<\/strong> and <strong>plug-in hybrids<\/strong> have been sold worldwide so far this year, up <strong>22% year-on-year<\/strong>. Still, growth is uneven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>China alone<\/strong> accounts for <strong>more than half of the world total<\/strong>; those of the <strong>USA and Canada<\/strong> are growing steadily, while the figures for <strong>Europe<\/strong> are declining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, sales of <strong>plug-in vehicles<\/strong> between <strong>January and September 2024<\/strong> compared to the same period in <strong>2023<\/strong> represent a decline in <strong>Europe<\/strong>, while growth is maintained globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/VE3-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42074\" srcset=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/VE3-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/VE3-2-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/VE3-2-768x429.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In that period, sales grew by <strong>35% in China<\/strong>, to <strong>7.2 million cars<\/strong>, and by <strong>10% in the United States and Canada<\/strong>, with <strong>1.3 million cars<\/strong>. In <strong>Europe<\/strong>, on the other hand, sales fell by <strong>4%<\/strong> to <strong>2.2 million units<\/strong>. In the <strong>rest of the world<\/strong> as a whole, sales grew by <strong>25%<\/strong> to just under <strong>one million units<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time and in the <strong>United States<\/strong>, according to a new report from the <strong>Alliance for Automotive Innovation<\/strong>, <strong>internal combustion engine cars<\/strong> recorded the largest <strong>loss of market share<\/strong> of all vehicle categories in the <strong>first half of 2024<\/strong>, with a decline of <strong>2.3%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Less than <strong>10 years ago<\/strong>, sales of <strong>internal combustion engine vehicles<\/strong>, whether <strong>gasoline or diesel<\/strong>, accounted for virtually the <strong>entire U.S. auto market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global sales of electric cars and PHEV plug-in hybrids increased by 30.5% year-on-year in September, according to data released by Rho Motion.
