This would eliminate the distortion of competition through <strong>unfair subsidies<\/strong>, which is why the tariffs were introduced in the first place.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September, the <strong>European Commission<\/strong> rejected proposals by Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers to set a <strong>minimum price<\/strong>. The Commission commented that the solution cannot &#8220;<strong>eliminate the harmful effects of subsidies<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>European Commission<\/strong> decided to increase <strong>tariffs<\/strong> on <strong>Chinese-made electric cars<\/strong> to <strong>45.3%<\/strong> as of <strong>October 30<\/strong>, after narrowly winning the approval of all <strong>27 EU member states<\/strong>. The decision followed several rounds of proposed tariff reductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The levy on <strong>Chinese-made Teslas<\/strong> has been reduced from <strong>9% to 7.8%<\/strong>, following an earlier cut of <strong>20.8%<\/strong>.<br>The tariff on the best-selling Chinese brand, <strong>BYD<\/strong>, stands at <strong>17%<\/strong>. Tariffs on <strong>Geely<\/strong> have been reduced to <strong>18.8%<\/strong> from <strong>19.3%<\/strong>, while those on <strong>SAIC<\/strong> and companies that did not cooperate with <strong>EU investigations<\/strong> have been reduced to <strong>35.3%<\/strong> from <strong>36.3%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China and the EU are holding talks to find an alternative solution to replace the tariffs recently imposed on Chinese electric vehicles.
