{"id":44196,"date":"2024-12-13T05:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/?p=44196"},"modified":"2024-12-14T05:52:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-14T10:52:00","slug":"electric-vehicle-sales-third-quarter-brings-encouraging-numbers-in-the-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/electric-vehicle-sales-third-quarter-brings-encouraging-numbers-in-the-united-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Electric Vehicle Sales: Third Quarter Brings Encouraging Numbers in the United States"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The market share of <strong>electric and hybrid vehicle<\/strong> sales in the United States continued to grow in the third quarter of 2024 (<strong>3Q24<\/strong>), reaching a new record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong>Wards Intelligence<\/strong>, the combined sales of hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased from <strong>19.1%<\/strong> of total light-duty vehicle (LDV) sales in the U.S. in <strong>2Q24<\/strong> to <strong>19.6%<\/strong> in <strong>3Q24<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This growth in the market share of electric and hybrid vehicles was primarily driven by hybrid vehicle sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Related content<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/important-discovery-about-battery-performance-revealed\/\">Important discovery revealed about battery performance<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-battery-electric-vehicles-decline\"><strong>Battery Electric Vehicles Decline<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sales of <strong>battery electric vehicles (BEVs)<\/strong> decreased slightly, with their market share dropping from <strong>7.4%<\/strong> of the U.S. light-duty vehicle market in <strong>2Q24<\/strong> to <strong>7.0%<\/strong> in <strong>3Q24<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VE-1-1024x572.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VE-1-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VE-1-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VE-1-768x429.jpg 768w, https:\/\/latamobility.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VE-1.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the market share of <strong>hybrid vehicles<\/strong> increased, with hybrids representing <strong>10.8%<\/strong> of the U.S. light-duty vehicle market in <strong>3Q24<\/strong>, a record high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-other-segments\"><strong>Other Segments<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>BEVs remained popular in the luxury vehicle segment, accounting for <strong>35.8%<\/strong> of luxury LDV sales in the U.S. during <strong>3Q24<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, luxury BEVs as a proportion of total BEV sales have been decreasing as non-luxury BEV sales have risen, marking the lowest share for luxury BEVs since <strong>2Q17<\/strong>. Even so, <strong>70.7%<\/strong> of BEVs sold in the U.S. during <strong>3Q24<\/strong> were luxury models, compared to just <strong>10.3%<\/strong> of hybrid vehicles sold in the luxury segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-price-trends\"><strong>Price Trends<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong>Cox Automotive<\/strong>, the <strong>average transaction price<\/strong> for a new BEV before factoring in any consumer or government incentives was <strong>$56,351<\/strong> at the end of <strong>3Q24<\/strong>, approximately <strong>16% higher<\/strong> than the industry-wide average vehicle price.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The market share of electric and hybrid vehicle sales in the United States continued to grow in the third quarter of 2024 (3Q24), reaching a new record.
