The Ministry of Transportation of Colombia<\/strong> has announced the implementation of the National Program for the Promotion of Bicycle Use (PFUB)<\/strong>, an initiative aimed at encouraging the use of bicycles<\/strong> as a primary means of transportation throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This program has three main objectives: increasing the number of bicycle trips, reducing the environmental impact of motor vehicle traffic, and improving urban mobility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decree establishing the PFUB<\/strong> was signed by President Gustavo Petro Urrego<\/strong> on February 5, 2025<\/strong>, coinciding with the celebration of Car-Free and Motorcycle-Free Day<\/strong> in cities like Bogot\u00e1 and Monter\u00eda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After its signing, the decree will be sent to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection<\/strong> and the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic<\/strong> to proceed with the necessary steps for its implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Figures in Colombia<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Currently, Colombia<\/strong> has over 1,400 km of cycling infrastructure<\/strong>, used daily by thousands of citizens<\/strong>. Bogot\u00e1<\/strong> leads with more than 630 km<\/strong>, while Monter\u00eda<\/strong> has 54 km<\/strong> and has been committed for 14 years<\/strong> to promoting bicycle use through various initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Environmental Affairs and Sustainable Development Group (GAADS)<\/strong> of the Ministry of Transportation<\/strong> is responsible for monitoring, planning, coordinating, and formulating projects<\/strong> that promote sustainable and healthy mobility<\/strong> in Colombia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the implementation of the PFUB<\/strong> represents a significant step<\/strong> toward establishing a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility culture<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
