The Spanish government has introduced an interactive charging points map in Spain<\/strong>, showcasing public EV charging stations across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The digital platform was launched by Sara Aagesen<\/strong>, Third Vice President and Minister for the Ecological Transition, as part of a broader strategy that includes a \u20ac400 million extension of incentives for electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban concentration highlights regional inequality<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While officials claim that 99% of the population is within 50 kilometers of a charging station, the map reveals significant territorial disparities<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catalonia, Madrid, Valencia, and Andalusia account for 60% of the 26,000 recorded charging points<\/strong>, mainly located in urban centers like Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, less populated and rural regions face notable deficits. In Asturias and Cantabria, key natural parks and rural areas lack coverage. Extremadura has only 500 charging stations, representing just 2% of the national infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintenance and reporting issues<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Operational reliability is another concern. According to Anfac<\/strong>, Spain\u2019s main auto industry association, 25% of charging stations are out of service<\/strong> due to poor maintenance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In areas like Girona\u2019s Alta Garrotxa, existing stations are not functional, making EV usage difficult even in technically covered regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Aagesen emphasized that the map is still under development, with only 80% of infrastructure data reported by operators. Anfac <\/strong>estimates the actual network includes more than 46,000 charging points nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government action plan ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Between April and June, the government will implement a new signage plan<\/strong> for inactive stations and release compliance reports on fuel stations\u2019 obligations. These measures aim to strengthen EV infrastructure<\/strong> and support fair access to clean mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
