{"id":5006,"date":"2021-06-14T14:01:26","date_gmt":"2021-06-14T19:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/latam.imagina.cloud\/?p=5006"},"modified":"2021-06-14T14:01:46","modified_gmt":"2021-06-14T19:01:46","slug":"president-of-costa-rica-it-is-time-for-latin-america-to-lead-sustainable-mobility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latamobility.com\/en\/president-of-costa-rica-it-is-time-for-latin-america-to-lead-sustainable-mobility\/","title":{"rendered":"President of Costa Rica: &#8220;It is time for Latin America to lead sustainable mobility&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The start of the second day of the Latam Mobility Virtual Summit, held virtually on the morning of June 9, was led by the president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, who offered a balance on the actions that his cabinet has promoted in the matter of sustainable mobility and offered his words of support to the more than 25,000 people who accompanied the event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president shared some of the results of the Law of Incentives for Electric Transportation promoted since 2018, thanks to which to date the country&#8217;s electric fleet increased by 45%, appearing as a key factor for the entry of new vehicles 0 emissions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom the momentum of this law, I have instructed the Central Government institutions to prioritize the replacement of the institutional fleet with electric vehicles,\u201d Quesada reported. At the same time, he indicated that, within the framework of the project, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute acquired 100 electric vehicles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic has taught us that today more than ever, we need to face the challenges of our time as one team. The climate crisis requires concrete actions and that is why we promote the electrification of transportation as an ideal option to reduce the emission of polluting gases and improve the quality of the air we breathe,\u201d were the words of the highest authority in Costa Rica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe work very hard to promote our National Decarbonization Plan and transform the energy that moves us. We are determined to leave fossil fuels behind and we have fostered the promotion of renewable energy made in Costa Rica thanks to our renewable electricity matrix,\u201d said Quesada.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expansion in charging infrastructure<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the global pandemic, in recent months people have shown preferences for the use of electric vehicles. On this, Quesada affirmed that some distributors project sales growth of up to 20%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In response to growing demand, Costa Rica expanded the National Cargo Network to cover most of the country with fast and secure chargers,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New electric buses<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are making progress in electric public transport with the entry into operation of 3 electric buses in the Greater Metropolitan Area, which have mobilized more than 22,000 passengers to date,&#8221; added the executive, who also stressed that a promotional rate was approved for the electric charging of buses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the president gave a clear message to all the executives who were part of the event: &#8220;We are the generation that has the responsibility of making the decisions that will set the course of the planet for many years.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I congratulate the entire Latam Mobility team for bringing together various actors committed to accelerating sustainable mobility in Latin America at this
