For the first time in Chile<\/strong>, a nationwide study<\/a><\/strong> has taken a hard look at the state of electromobility in commercial fleets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysis was led by the Center for Sustainable Mobility (CMS)<\/strong> and the consulting firm Feedback Research<\/strong>, uncovering crucial insights<\/strong> about the present and future of corporate transportation in a time of high fuel price volatility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings, laid out in the report “X\u2011ray of Electromobility in Corporate Fleets<\/a>,”<\/strong> show that while current adoption is still small, there is strong business interest<\/strong> and solid support for public policies<\/strong> that encourage the supply of zero\u2011emission vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aiming for Transport Decarbonization<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The study \u2013 called an unprecedented milestone of its kind<\/strong> \u2013 was conducted between December 1, 2025, and January 16, 2026<\/strong>, with a representative sample of 520 companies from across Chile<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sample included 248 companies in the Metropolitan Region<\/strong> and 272 in other regions<\/strong>, covering small, medium, and large businesses from various sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey was aimed exclusively at people with decision\u2011making power and direct knowledge of fleets<\/strong> \u2013 such as owners, general managers, logistics managers, operations managers, and finance managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Margarita Amaya<\/strong>, Director of Corporate Management at Conecta Log\u00edstica<\/strong>, highlighted the report’s value, saying that electromobility is a tangible reality<\/strong> in national logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, she warned that “as a country, we are lagging behind our electromobility potential” \u2013 comments that reflect a shared diagnosis: the tools and conditions exist to move faster<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Low Adoption vs. Strong Future Interest<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite the clear benefits of electrification, the current picture of corporate fleets shows extremely low penetration<\/strong> of electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report<\/a><\/strong>, 97%<\/strong> of the surveyed corporate fleet still runs on gasoline or diesel, and only 2%<\/strong> corresponds to 100% electric<\/strong> units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For hybrid or plug\u2011in vehicles, the total penetration rate is only 3%<\/strong>, with 7%<\/strong> of companies saying they have at least one electrified unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the study yields a hopeful finding<\/strong>: 40%<\/strong> of companies show a high predisposition<\/strong> toward electromobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to concrete purchase intent, 50%<\/strong> of companies said they are interested in buying or leasing electric vehicles in the medium term \u2013 mainly attracted by fuel and maintenance savings (52%)<\/strong> and environmental benefits (43%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technical conditions to speed up this transition already exist nationwide. The study highlights that 53% of fleets travel less than 100 kilometers per day<\/strong> \u2013 a distance well within the range of today’s electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s more, 70% of operations<\/strong> are concentrated in urban and short\u2011distance interurban environments, making them ideal candidates for electrification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rising Fuel Prices and Public Support Accelerate the Transition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The macroeconomic context is a key catalyst<\/strong>. The report found that 86%<\/strong> of companies said they are concerned about the high price of gasoline and diesel \u2013 a concern that grew even more after the fuel price hike announced in March 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original survey was done before that increase, so experts think current sentiment is likely even more critical. This worry hits hard in sectors like agriculture, transportation, logistics, and tourism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juan Pablo Gallardo<\/strong>, Director of Feedback Research<\/strong>, commented: “This baseline study of companies \u2013 unprecedented in the country \u2013 shows a concrete opportunity to boost electromobility in Chile<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gallardo<\/strong> stressed that “with favorable operating conditions, the challenge is to close the gaps in infrastructure and financing<\/strong>, where the State must lead with regulatory certainty, enabling conditions, and access to clear and timely information<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with this, a resounding 65%<\/strong> of companies support government regulations that would require manufacturers to offer more electric vehicle models<\/strong> in the Chilean market \u2013 a clear sign of unsatisfied demand<\/strong> that highlights the need to expand available supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interest from individual consumers is also high. Data shows that Chile is the third most interested country in the world<\/strong> in buying an electric vehicle, with 57%<\/strong> support \u2013 behind only Indonesia<\/strong> and Mexico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barriers: Financing, Infrastructure, and Limited Supply<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite the high interest and favorable operating conditions, companies pointed to major obstacles<\/strong> blocking mass adoption of electromobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaps in charging infrastructure and limited financing<\/strong> remain the biggest barriers to fleet replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among companies with low technological readiness, 84%<\/strong> identified lack of charging infrastructure<\/strong> as the main impediment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The needed solutions vary by company size. While 59% of SMEs<\/strong> ask for state financing guarantees<\/strong> to be able to invest, large companies prioritize enabling conditions<\/strong> like special electricity rates (47%)<\/strong> to make fleet operation viable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ignacio Rivas<\/strong>, Program Director at the Center for Sustainable Mobility<\/strong>, noted that energy efficiency standards have proven to be effective public policy in the past. He said, “It’s a pity that the standards for medium\u2011duty vehicles have been delayed \u2013 those are exactly the vehicles this survey focused on, and 65% of respondents value energy efficiency regulations<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rivas<\/strong> therefore stressed the importance of a combined strategy<\/strong> that includes vehicle performance standards, better electricity rate designs, and incentives for charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Path toward Corporate Transition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The “X\u2011ray of Electromobility in Corporate Fleets<\/a>“<\/strong> positions Chile<\/strong> as a country with enormous strategic potential<\/strong> in the energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High exposure to oil price swings, combined with growing technological maturity<\/strong> of electric vehicles and steady development of charging infrastructure<\/strong>, is creating a favorable environment for mass electrification<\/strong> of industry and logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juan Pablo Gallardo<\/strong> of Feedback Research<\/strong> summed up the takeaway: “The challenge is to close infrastructure and financing gaps, where the State must lead with regulatory certainty.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With business interest in Chile exceeding 50%<\/strong> and favorable technical conditions for short\u2011distance operations, the country is at the ideal tipping point<\/strong> to speed up adoption of these clean technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The private sector is ready. The roadmap is drawn. Conditions are favorable. All that’s left is to solidify the regulatory and financial framework<\/strong> so that corporate electromobility stops being the exception and becomes the standard for Chilean transportation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
