Geely<\/strong> has reached<\/a><\/strong> a new milestone in the electric mobility industry by surpassing the 1,000 kW<\/strong> charging power threshold on the vehicle side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During certification tests conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center <\/strong>(CATARC), the company’s new Aegis Gold Brick<\/strong> EV battery recorded a peak charging rate of 1,093 kW<\/strong>\u2014an achievement that positions the Chinese automaker at the global forefront of charging speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This breakthrough comes at a time when manufacturers are competing not only to increase vehicle range, but also to dramatically slash charging times<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aegis Gold Brick<\/strong> battery, featuring lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry and short-blade type cells, was specifically designed for the Lynk & Co 10<\/strong> sedan, a plug-in hybrid model that has already launched in the Chinese market with a starting price of 169,900 yuan (approximately $23,700 USD<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooling System That Keeps Temperature in Check<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Managing over one megawatt of charging power generates a monumental thermal challenge. In China, regulations require that battery temperatures do not exceed 65 \u00b0C (149 \u00b0F)<\/strong> during the charging process. In official tests, Geely’s battery reached a maximum temperature of 64 \u00b0C<\/strong>, staying just below the regulatory limit even at peak power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This thermal control is achieved through a dual-sided 3D liquid cooling system<\/strong> that surrounds the cell groups with coolant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the company, this design doubles the heat exchange surface area and cuts in half the distance heat must travel to dissipate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The battery management software also verifies temperature data multiple times per second and adjusts the coolant flow to prevent hot spots\u2014a precise control that protects the battery’s internal chemistry against acid formation and premature degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Record-Breaking Charging Performance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The certified test results are extraordinary. The Aegis Gold Brick<\/strong> battery charged from 10% to 70% in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds<\/strong>, far surpassing the initial 9-minute target the company had set for the Lynk & Co 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a full test, the battery went from 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 42 seconds<\/strong>. At its peak, the system adds approximately 2 kilometers of range for every second<\/strong> the vehicle remains plugged into the charger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These charging speeds dramatically reduce downtime without the need for battery swap systems or high-capacity external charging networks. Moreover, Geely has not only focused on speed, but also on longevity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company claims that the Aegis Gold Brick<\/strong> is designed to withstand 4,500 full charge cycles<\/strong>, which equates to a useful life of approximately 1 million kilometers<\/strong>. This durability ensures that the battery can accompany the vehicle throughout its entire lifespan, matching the service life of the car’s chassis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geely Opens Patents to Boost the Industry<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a strategic move to accelerate the adoption of this technology across the industry, Geely<\/strong> has released 12 structural patents<\/strong> related to underside battery protection within the chassis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This decision allows other manufacturers to adapt these designs for their future electric vehicles and charging networks, fostering standardization and shared innovation in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This development is part of the intense competition among Chinese manufacturers to lead in ultra-fast charging. BYD<\/strong>, for example, has deployed flash charging stations of up to 1,500 kW and has set a benchmark of 5-minute charging. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Geely<\/strong>‘s approach is different: the company focuses on the vehicle’s ability to safely and efficiently accept that power, rather than just boosting the charger’s output. This vehicle-side focus<\/strong> reduces thermal stress on the cells and improves the real-world efficiency of the charging process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Year 2026 of Consolidation for Mobility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Latam Mobility 2026 Tour<\/strong> will arrive in Santiago, Chile, on August 25<\/a><\/strong>, bringing together experts and strategic players to further strengthen the sustainable mobility ecosystem in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
