Yutong Bus Expands Electrified Technology in Latin America

Yutong Bus has become one of the leading providers in Latin America for the development of electric mobility. 60% of total electric car sales (17 million) in 2023 took place in China, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

In this context, the Chinese government has committed to ensuring that all new cars sold starting in 2035 will operate on “new energy.”

According to a publication by Forbes Latin America, it is estimated that in Beijing and cities like Zhengzhou and Shenzhen, more than 90% of urban buses are already electric.

As a global leader in the production of buses with new energy, China is the world’s largest exporter of these vehicles, with significant potential, as its sales accounted for only 3% of the total buses sold globally in 2023.

Yutong’s Operations

Following a visit to the largest bus production plant in the country, operated by Yutong Bus in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan, the Forbes team observed how this brand consistently focuses on innovation and modernization of its electric buses, which are now supplied to 122 countries worldwide, including Latin American nations like Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and Chile.

Li Gaopeng, director of the Yutong New Energy Research Institute, told Forbes that China has contributed 190,000 electric vehicles to the world through Yutong, equivalent to planting 140,000 trees.

Yutong highlights that this has involved an approximate annual investment of 1 billion yuan.
In its dynamic testing field, for example, buses undergo steering and braking tests at speeds of 30 and 70 kilometers per hour, as well as simulations of roads with faults, obstacles, floods, and torrential rains to ensure that systems remain functional under these conditions.

In other laboratories, its innovations test the structural resistance of the buses with crash simulations and temperatures ranging from -40°C to 50°C.
