Yutong Electric Buses with YESS Technology in Mexico City

The Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong presented in Mexico its new battery technology, Yutong Electric Safety Standard (YESS), an innovation that is already integrated into the Metrobus and trolleybuses in the country’s capital.

The company reported that this innovation is already operating in about 750 electric buses in the country, with an outstanding presence in Line 3 of public transport.

In addition, Yutong announced the TeamZero alliance with leading partners, in which all are committed to continue on the path of zero emissions and decarbonization of the vehicle fleet.

Technology

Yutong details that the batteries have a high temperature protection, managing to withstand up to 1,300 degrees Celsius of light or fire, for a period of up to two hours. This is achieved thanks to an ASC protective cover and various insulation systems.

The first level of YESS safety is the body-to-body collision prevention, where a steel cover is used to make the batteries more resistant to any shock eventuality.

YESS also offers a nitrogen protection system, which consists of the implementation of anaerobic oxygen in the battery case that completely eliminates combustion conditions in the event of any mishap.

Another safety feature is the battery monitoring in real time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with five-minute intervals between each monitoring to detect possible irregularities.

Emmanuel Sigüenza, Yutong‘s Project Manager, explained that the YESS system also has the effective protection of all vehicle components, which is a cooling cycle that is responsible for cooling each of the battery components to reduce the maintenance condition.

“What we are looking for is to have a reliable battery, which can adapt to any environment, which can work in the most stringent conditions,” he said.

For his part, Michel Ren, Commercial Director for Yutong Mexico, emphasized that the brand’s batteries have different advantages: from a durability of ten years, more than four thousand recharge cycles; to immersion at a depth of 8 meters under water for a period of 72 hours or resistance to low temperatures of up to -55°C; characteristics that make this technology one of the most resistant in the market.

Yutong has already implemented this technology on a global scale with 172,000 new generation electric buses, and 750 units in Mexico, reducing polluting emissions.
