Yutong sees Latin America as a key market to develop its electromobility technologies, which is why it is partnering with local companies to expand its offer of electric buses and trucks.
In this regard, Joyce Ren, director of Yutong’s truck division for Latin America, revealed to BN Americas part of the Asian brand’s strategy in the region during the presentation of the new electric truck models to be marketed in Chile.
“Latin America is always at the forefront of electromobility. In this case we are deploying in Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and Brazil. These are the most important markets in Latin America for electromobility and their governments are also emphasizing sustainability,” he stressed.

Regional Projects
Ren said the brand is preparing plans to expand in Colombia, Uruguay and Peru through local partners.
Yutong currently supplies buses to Santiago de Chile’s bus rapid transit system, RED, and sells electric trucks in the country through its local partner ZEV.
The Yutong executive highlighted that Chile has been very organized in this case, through good public policies to promote electromobility. Among international companies, everyone wants to be a pioneer in promoting electromobility,” said Ren.
He added that battery costs will tend to come down and that larger companies are taking steps with electromobility with greater urgency now that the cost gap with traditional vehicles is starting to narrow.
ZEV plans to sell 60 electric trucks this year through its agreement with Yutong, including hydrogen-powered vehicles.
According to its founder and CEO, Rubens Poblete, the Chilean firm is oriented mainly to customers in the mining sector.
Latam Mobility in Chile
In August, Latam Mobility, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America, will once again arrive in Santiago de Chile for its 2024 meeting.
It will be two days that will bring together the most prominent industry leaders, along with public sector personalities, to offer their perspectives on advances in low-emission mobility, electromobility and sustainability.
