Mexico has become a vital territory for investment and technology development by electric bus manufacturer Yutong in recent years.
Yutong Bus will build a plant in Mexico to supply the domestic market with electric units for passenger transport as part of the electromobility strategy being promoted in Mexico City from 2019.
In an interview with the local media “Crónica”, Michael Ren, CEO of Yutong Mexico, pointed out that tariffs for electric vehicles in the electromobility market and, within the framework of the T-MEC with the United States and the irruption of nearshoring, would have to be carefully analyzed.

Vision
Yutong’s plans to invest in a plant in Mexico to accelerate the expansion of the so-called e-buses is presented together with plans to open facilities in other regions such as Karachi, Pakistan, where it would build facilities to manufacture intercity buses and electric buses.
In Chile, according to Crónica, Yutong is also expanding its presence in the electromobility market.
By the end of 2024, the Asian electromobility giant for mass passenger transport expects to close with sales of more than 600 units, while by 2025 sales would rise to 1,000 units, which would justify the installation of a plant in Mexico.
With almost 700 electric units for mass passenger transportation already circulating in the country, now the Asian mega firm will seek to expand its presence nationwide, after winning several public tenders in Mexico City to sell hundreds of new generation trolleybuses aimed at taking advantage of and recovering the routes of the old trolleybus that operated in the 1950s between the south and the historic downtown area.
