Zeroca Boosts Electromobility in Chile on Paris Agreement Grounds

On December 9, 2023, Chile signed a bilateral climate agreement with Switzerland under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The agreement opened a financing opportunity for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Chile, including electromobility.

In the country, the ZEROCA program will accelerate the transition to electromobility through the participation of various key actors linked to the transportation sector (owners, suppliers or manufacturers of the technology, investors, operators, leasing companies, among others).

The plan will promote electric mobility in different categories of electric vehicles (either battery or fuel cell with green hydrogen).

Vehicles Considered

Among them are vans and heavy vehicles for cargo transportation; intercity buses for passenger transportation; public transportation buses; corporate buses for personnel transportation; motorcycles and 3-wheeled vehicles used for commercial purposes (home transportation and/or delivery services).

It also includes mobile machinery equipment such as forklifts, dump trucks, graders, and forklifts used in warehouses, construction sites, ports, airports, and mining sites.

Also, commercial vessels used for passenger or cargo transportation and cargo infrastructure.

The program is expected to cover the entire country, to support the massification of this type of low or zero-emission transportation, which, in addition to contributing to climate change mitigation, will also have benefits for people’s health and quality of life, by reducing air and noise pollution.
