A few weeks ago, Porsche Director, Oliver Blume, publicly stated that electromobility was a top priority for the iconic brand. For its part, the company’s finance department has already made important projections to ensure that electric vehicles can become more profitable than combustion vehicles.
Porsche’s strategy in electric mobility has not remained a show of intentions, but in practice they present an outstanding offer in their new prototypes. In Latin America, the Taycan sports car has been an increasingly popular sensation in the region.
This week, the German brand announced that it is working on an electrified version of the Porsche Cayenne, which is expected to be launched in 2025. It should be noted that this model already has hybrid technology at present.
Last July, during the presentation of results for the first half of 2022, the head of R&D at Porsche, Michael Steiner revealed that a Cayenne powered by a set of batteries is under development, which will share the PPE platform with the next electric Porsche Macan.
Model Features
According to the company’s announcement, the all-electric Porsche Cayenne will feature a powertrain with a dual electric motor layout; however, other models point to new possibilities.
The PPE platform is mostly developed by Audi, although it will also be used by Porsche in some of its models, including the two electric variants of the upcoming SUVs (Macan and Cayenne). This will allow the adoption of an architecture of up to 800 volts and fast charges of up to 270 kW.
In addition, as standard, it will accommodate an electric motor located on the rear axle and, alternatively, it will introduce a second motor on the front axle to thus make a model with all-wheel drive.
Among other key points of this platform will be torque vectoring, four-wheel steering, air suspension system and a low center of gravity.
