Porsche Seeks to Lead Micromobility with Electric Bicycle Technology Offering

As part of its strategy to lead electromobility on a global scale, Porsche not only presents not only exciting electric cars, but also ventures into the field of micromobility.

In this sense, the prestigious German brand has a technological offer of electric bicycles or eBikes. Although this vehicle is very different from the brand’s sports cars, there are some points in common. One of them is the quality and satisfactory experience of use to meet everyday transportation needs.

The Porsche eBike Sport is an ideal means of transport for city and off-road use. This is made possible, in part, by the new Continental tires implemented after the latest product update in October 2022.

Features

It is equipped with a Shimano EP-8 motor and a 630 Wh capacity battery. It therefore provides adequate pedaling assistance and facilitates rapid acceleration, something much needed at times when riding in urban environments.

The lightweight vehicle features a Magura MCi System, in which all brake hydraulics are hidden inside the handlebars: pump, reservoir and lines.

In addition to a cleaner and neater appearance, the main practical advantage of this system is that these elements are protected in the event of a fall and are safe from damage by contact.

Another element with a practical function that also improves the image of the bike is the Supernova M99 lighting. A connector is also supplied with which the user can link his smartphone to the bike, making commuting easier.

Untapped Opportunity

Lutz Meschke, Vice President and member of the Board of Management of Porsche AG with responsibility for Finance and IT, said that they see great potential in the electric bicycle segment, which is why they are constantly expanding their activities in this area.

To offer innovations in light vehicles, Porsche created two joint ventures with the Dutch company “Ponooc Investment“: Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, based in Ottobrunn near Munich, and P2 eBike GmbH – powered by Porsche, located in Stuttgart.
